Farewell South Jersey athletes, coaches, parents, fellow writers and others who have made my five years, five months of covering sports full-time in the area a memorable and enriching experience.

After today, I no longer will be a staff writer for The Inquirer. It's time for me to move on. I have a project that will keep me busy for a year or more and it will occupy most of my time.

The rest of the time? You might see my by-line like this: By Bill Iezzi, For The Inquirer. I'd like that. Hope you do, too.

Bishop Eustace (2-1) at Paul; VI (1-2) is 6 ABC's football Game of the Week and yours truly will be there Friday night, twittering scores and covering the action in this West Jersey Football League interdivisional battle.

Just because Eustace is in the Independence Division and Paul VI is in the Constitution doesn't mean that the two teams won't go all out for a win. They go at each other hard in every sport. - Bill Iezzi

What a wild boys’ soccer race it is in the Colonial Conference Liberty Division. Haddon Heights is the defending champion and once again a major threat. The other major contenders are Haddonfield, West Deptford and based on early results, it would be difficult to count out Sterling.

Heights and West Deptford played to a scoreless draw on Tuesday, in another example of the great parity that exists.

Already Heights has tied Sterling and West Deptford and beaten Haddonfield. Meanwhile West Deptford has lost to Haddonfield and Sterling and tied Heights. Haddonfield has beaten West Deptford and Sterling while losing to Heights. And Sterling has the win over West Deptford and tie with Heights plus the loss to Haddonfield.

If the Haddon Heights boys' soccer team can win its next six games, it will have given head coach Jeff Eppright a significant accomplishment: 300 victories in a carreer that spans 24 years.

The Garnets are 2-1-1 and in their last game they defeated arch rival Haddonfield, 2-0, a confidence builder.

If they are able to run the table against West Deptford, Overbrook, Audubon, Collingswood, Sterling and Highland, Eppright will have his milestone on Oct. 10 at Haddon Heights. - Bill Iezzi

One player who is expected to stand out in Friday night's football game at Moorestown is Timber Creek linebacker Quanzell Lambert.

The senior recently was selected to play in the inagural Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl Jan. 3 in Phoenix.

The game features 100 of the top scholastic players from around the country. They were selected because they personify the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment.

Since Steve Keane has returned to goalkeeping duties for Clearview this season, the Pioneers are 3-0 with two shutouts.

After a solid sophomore season in the cage, Keane sat on the sideline last year with an inujury. He said he is not feeling the effects of a torn ACL and the shutouts seem to be evidence.

The Haddonfield boys' soccer program won its 600th game Thursday when the Bulldogs beat Audubon, 8-1.

Johnny Alemi, Abby Bah, Stephen Noll, Jared Novak, Luke Pease and P.K. Schlitt each scored a goal and Alex Johnston tallied two.

"The program's numbers speak for themselves," Haddonfield athletic director Lefty Banos said. "It can be considered as one of the most successful programs in South Jersey history.
