The best teams in South Jersey, regardless of sport:

1. Camden Catholic wrestling. There are a lot of wrestling people who think Paulsboro is better than Camden Catholic this year. They might be right. But on paper is the only place that match will be contested. I could see that match going 7-7 in bouts and Camden Catholic winning on bonus points. I also could see it going 8-6, or even 9-5 in bouts in favor of Paulsboro. I like Camden Catholic's freshmen. I think they're going to get better and better as the season moves along.

2. Cherokee boys' basketball. The Chiefs faced a tough challenge -- physically and psychologically -- the other night against Lenape. They answered with an overtime victory. Senior guard guard Willis Nicholson is playing at a high level. Cherokee needs senior forward Ryan McKeaney to play his best for the Chiefs to realize their potential.

George Washington’s Sharrif Floyd, rated one of the top defensive tackles in the country, has been selected as the Maxwell Football Club’s national high school player of the year.
The 6-foot-3, 310-pound Floyd, who recently committed to the University of Florida, will formally receive the award at a dinner on March 5 at Harrah’s Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City.
Last season, Floyd, with his dominant play as a two-way lineman, helped lead the Eagles to an 8-3 record and their third straight Public League title. He was an Inquirer first-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection on defense.

Willingboro built a 17-point lead in the first half and held off a second-half rally by Rancocas Valley to score a 52-45 victory in a Burlington County League game today.

Senior forward Chris Burke led Willingboro, the No. 3 team in The Inquirer Top 10, with 19 points.

But the key for the Chimeras was the fourth-quarter play of senior guards Jarvis Perry (14) and Kyle Smith.
