Baseball: Gloucester Catholic wins Grand Slam title

Junior Jeff Paglione pitched a complete game and sophomore John Brue hit a three-run home run as Gloucester Catholic beat Millville 8-2 in the title game of the Grand Slam Classic Satursday.

Junior Jeff Paglione pitched a complete game and sophomore John Brue hit a three-run home run as Gloucester Catholic beat Millville 8-2 in the title game of the Grand Slam Classic Satursday.

Paglione threw a four-hitter with six strikeouts. He had a one-hit shutout with an 8-0 lead entering the top of the seventh inning, when Millville bunched three hits and scored twice on Colin Meandro's two-run double.

Brue hit his home run in the bottom of the sixth. Steve Wilgus drove in two runs with sacrifice flies, and Tim Patterson hit an RBI double for Gloucester Catholic.

Greg Haines had two hits and scored two runs for the Rams (7-0), who beat Shawnee, Washington Township and Millville to win the tournament.

Millville, which beat Cherokee and Williamstown in the tournament, is 4-2.
