Basketball: Cherokee beats Shabazz in T of C quarterfinals

Willis Nicholson scored 25 points, shooting 13-for-14 from the foul line, as Cherokee beat Shabazz 53-52 tonight in the quarterfinals of the Tournament of Champions.

Christian Jordan added 13 points for Cherokee (24-6), the Group 4 state champion.

With the victory, fourth-seeded Cherokee advances to face top-seeded Camden Catholic Friday at 8 p.m. at Rutgers.

Camden Catholic is 28-1 and its only loss was in double overtime to Cherokee on Jan. 7.

Nicholson scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter. He was 8-for-8 from the foul line.

Shabazz (25-5), the Group 2 state champion, missed a 30-footer at the buzzer.
