In PIAA State Class AAA girls' volleyball on Tuesday, Lauren Schmickle had 28 assists and five digs for Hatboro-Horsham in a 25-12, 25-11, 25-10 first-round win over Abington Heights at Nanticoke.

Ashley Morgan added seven kills and three aces for the Hatters (19-3), who also got a strong game from Carly Black.

At Norristown, Sarah Kiely had seven kills and 10 digs for Council Rock North in a 25-5, 25-6, 25-9 win over Girls High. Teammate Rachel Friedman added five kills. Caroline Anderson also played well for the Indians.

Also at Norristown, Bishop Shanahan needed four games to eliminate Exeter, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-13.
