Girls' soccer: How many Central League teams will go to districts?

This is the talk of most e-mailers and commenters here in the days leading up to the District 1 selections on Sunday for the 21-team girls' soccer tournament.

The Central League is incredibly deep, with more than a few teams deserving of a bid to the playoffs.

But...it's complicated.

In the District playoffs, no team that finishes with a lower league record than another can be seeded over them in the playoffs.

So unless Strath Haven and Radnor get the job done in their final regular-season games, it could get tricky.

Here are the current league standings:

Conestoga 11-0, 33 pts

Haverford 8-2-1, 25

L. Merion 7-3, 21 (Wed. vs. Upper Darby)

Garnet Valley 7-4, 21

Strath Haven 6-2-2, 20 (Wed. vs. Penncrest)

Radnor 5-2-3, 18  (Thurs. @ Harriton)

The girls' AAA tournament is 21 teams. Will the selection committee make nearly a third of the field from the Central League? Hard to say.

Strath Haven and Radnor have played better opponents in nonleague games than Garnet Valley. That could end up being the deciding factor.

So keep an eye on those final few games.
