District 1 soccer seedings announced Sunday

District 1 soccer seedings announced Sunday

By Matt Gelb

The regular season wraps up this week. And on Sunday, District 1 teams will learn their postseason situation.

The District 1 seeding committee meets Sunday morning to determine the matchups for the A, AA, AAA boys’ and the AA and AAA girls’ tournaments.

In AAA, 27 boys’ teams will make the District 1 tournament. The top five seeds receive first-round byes. For the girls’ AAA tournament, 21 teams qualify, and the first round consists of five play-in games.

In the AAA tournaments, four teams advance to states. In the A and AA tournaments, only the champion advances.

Considering how wide open play has been this season, there are sure to be some interesting decisions made on seeding. As for the top seeds, here is how we see it:
Boys’ AAA: Pennsbury, Strath Haven, Council Rock North, Lower Merion and Unionville.
Girls’ AAA: Downingtown West, Conestoga, Villa Joseph Marie, Unionville and Haverford.
