Pa.: Saturday Boys' Soccer

Some quick thinking by Dalton Carroll led to a 1-0 win for Springfield (Delaware County) against visiting Pottsgrove in a nonleague game.

Carroll, watching as the Pottsgrove goalie tried to set up the wall on a direct kick, got to the ball fast and blasted it home from 20 yards out midway through the first half.

The Cougars (4-8-2) got 15 saves from their own goalie, Ryan Rhodes.

Christian Benner scored a goal and assisted on another for host Souderton in a 2-0 win over West Chester East. Sophomore goalie Dave Giannina needed only one save to post his ninth shutout of the year for the Indians (9-2-2, 7-1-2).

Haverford High got two goals from Andy Mack in a 4-0 win over visiting Glen Mills.  Johnny Chan and Zach Yelson also scored for the Fords (6-6-1).

Second-half goals from Ryan Knight and Scott Seifert lifted host Downingtown West past Neshaminy, 2-0. Goalie Bob Rosato had six saves to post the Whippets’ 11th shutout this season. Teammate Bobby Sutcliffe, a midfielder, played well on defense.

Bicentennial. Andrew Fletcher scored twice and sophomore Nick Weis posted his first career shutout in goal for Devon Prep in a 3-0 win at Plumstead Christian. Chris Smith also scored.

Ches-Mont. Nick Schwartz’s header with 4:22 left in the second half gave Great Valley a 1-1 tie at West Chester Henderson.
