District 1 Tennis: Lower Moreland's Cohen wins title

Madison Cohen’s trophy case got another piece of impressive hardware Saturday.

The Lower Moreland sophomore added a second District 1 Class AA title to her trophy case with a 6-1, 1-0 (retired) win over Harriton’s Jen Shulkin at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.

That comes one year after Cohen, the top seed, won that title as a freshman and followed it with a state Class AA singles championship.

Shulkin, the second seed, retired with a wrist injury after dropping the opening game of the second set.

In Class AAA, top-seeded Tessa Lyons of Strath Haven advanced to the Oct. 28 final against Radnor’s Lauren Bridges.
