Wednesday girls' tennis

Washington’s Mari Samadashvili had no problem playing in up to 40 m.p.h. gusts, taking the Public League Class AAA individual tennis title with straight-set wins in both her semifinal and final matches yesterday at the Awbury Recreation Center. Samadashvili topped Central’s Alex Lawall, 6-0, 6-0, in the final, after beating Valerie Cherny, also of Central, by the same score in the semifinal. Masterman’s Zoey Toy won the Class AA title. The league champions will go on to face the Catholic League winners in their respective classifications in the District 12 championships next week at a site to be determined.

Academy Park’s second-seeded team of Yah Barleh and Kathlyne Pradel knocked off the top-seeded team of Chichester’s Rebecca Lumley and Racquel Givens, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, to take the league title. Barleh, who won the league singles title last week, became half of the first-ever Academy Park doubles title team.
