Matt Gelb: Inside the girls' soccer rankings

The top four remain the same, but there is a huge drop off after that...

The Inquirer TOP 10
Girls' Soccer

With last week's ranking in parentheses.
Records are through Monday.

1. Downingtown W. (1) 10-0-1
Don't scoff at the tie to Pennington. Coach Wes Davis said it's the first time the Whippets haven't lost to the Jersey powerhouse.

2. Conestoga (2) 10-1
Ho-hum: Has outscored its next four opponents since the Downingtown West loss, 19-2

3. Villa Joseph Marie (3) 11-0-1
Simply a bizzare scene on Monday night at Strath Haven. But it shouldn't affect the team much.

4. Archbishop Wood (4) 10-1
On pace to win the Catholic League easily.

5. Radnor (6) 9-1-3
Huge setback losing star goalie Diana Lansinger for the season with a fractured hand.

6. Unionville (9) 10-2-1
Setting up a run in the Ches-Mont League with solid play. But can they hang with the Whippets?

7. Lansdale Catholic (7) 9-1-1
Doing just fine since the blowout loss against Wood. But we can't help but keep thinking about that stinker of a performance.

8. Lower Merion (10) 8-3
Couldn't take down Strath Haven. Need to finish strong with Central League foes.

9. Boyertown (NR) 11-2
It's the debut for the Bears in the poll and they could be moving up quickly. Only losses are to Villa Joe and Downingtown West.

10. Germantown Acad. (8) 6-3-1
A pair of shutout losses to two quality teams last week: Wood and Pennington.
