Saturday's girls' cross-country roundup

Kingsway’s Chelsea Ley nearly cracked the elusive 18-minute barrier at Holmdel Park and dominated as she dominated the girls’ competition by a wide margin yesterday in the Shore Coaches Invitational cross-country meet. Ley won the Varsity B race in 18:03, crossing the finish line 1:04 ahead of her closest rival. She was 58 seconds faster than any other girl from around the state in the seven varsity races on the hilly 3.1-mile course in Lincroft.

Kingsway’s Chelsea Ley nearly cracked the elusive 18-minute barrier at Holmdel Park and dominated as she dominated the girls’ competition by a wide margin yesterday in the Shore Coaches Invitational cross-country meet.
Ley won the Varsity B race in 18:03, crossing the finish line 1:04 ahead of her closest rival.  She was 58 seconds faster than any other girl from around the state in the seven varsity races on the hilly 3.1-mile course in Lincroft.


Hillsborough’s Ashley Smolinka won the Varsity A race in 19:01. Only seven girls have ever broken 18 minutes on the course that course, which is also used for the state championships.

Bishop Eustace won the Varsity E race with Holly Bischof placing third, Montana DiPietrantonio sixth and Kelly Malloy ninth.
Seneca placed five runners between 11th and 30th to win the Varsity C team trophy, Wildwood Catholic’s Tara Wuko was second in the Varsity F race, and Cherokee’s Megan Lacy was second in the Varsity A race.
