Phil Anastasia: In praise of volleyball

If you like action, you'll like volleyball.

We don't cover the sport enough. I'm also not sure why more schools don't offer it.

But it's a cool game, fast and furious. It's all about anticipation, reaction, eye-hand coordination and teamwork.

What more could you want?

Plus, it's fast. I went to see two unbeaten Olympic American teams -- Cherry Hill East and host Cherokee -- play today at 5:15 p.m. I was on my way home by 6:30 p.m.

Cherry Hill East won 2-0 (25-19, 25-20) to run its record to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the division. The Cougars have a great setter in Yael Einhorn and a pair of powerful outside hitters in Marissa Johnson and Anna Johnson (no relation).

Cherokee (7-1, 3-1) is pretty good. I was really impressed with Chiefs' senior hitter Courtney Escudero.

There was a decent crowd in Cherokee's South gym, maybe a couple hundred fans. They were into it, and the players always are fired up.

It was good stuff.

Volleyball.

Check it out.
