Church The Latest Timber Creek Football Recruit

The recruits keep coming for the Timber Creek football program. Senior defensive back Eric Church has made an oral commitment to attend Kent State, becoming the fifth member of this season’s team to earn a Division I scholarship.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Church, who will also play running back and slot, said he was recruited to play cornerback for Kent State.

“I visited there and it really felt like home,” Church said of Kent State.

He will be coached in college by somebody who is familiar with South Jersey talent. Kent State head football coach Darrell Hazell is a graduate of Cinnaminson.

“He is a great guy and I look forward to playing for him,” Church said.

Church earned first-team all-conference honors in the West Jersey Football League Royal Division. Timber Creek not only won the division but earned its first-ever South Jersey Group 3 title during a 12-0 season.

Church said he also had offers from Monmouth and Colgate. He added that West Virginia, Temple and Old Dominion were among the other schools in contact.

The other Timber Creek players who have made commitments are defensive linemen Greg Webb and Dajaun Drennon, who will attend North Carolina, running back Zaire Williams (West Virginia) and linebacker Myles Nash (Rutgers).

“This is great that I made my choice and now I can concentrate on the season,” Church said. “I am pretty relieved that it is all over.
