Bill Iezzi: Can Byrd Win Four?

Timber Creek sprinter Damiere Byrd will have a shot at four gold medals Friday and Saturday at the NJSIAA Group 3, Group 2 and Non-Public B state track and field championships at South Plainfield.

Byrd won the sectional Group 3 title in the 100 last week with the best time in the Group, 10.36 seconds. He had the best jump in the Group with 23-5.5 feet to win that crown, too.

Byrd placed second in the 400 in 49.57, but could defend his state title in that event. The senior is an alternate on Timber Creek's 4x400-meter relay, which won the sectional crown.

Byrd is the defending 100, 200 and 400 state champ.
