Seeded second in the 400 intermediate hurdles Friday at the NJSIAA sectional group 3 and Group 4 championships, Millville's Meagan Thornton ran her best ever time in the Group 4 event to win in a time of 1 minute, 3.37 seconds. Her previous best time had been 1:03.4.

Thornton, a senior, took the lead from Egg Harbor Township's Katie Champion at the sixth hurdle and raced to victory.

"This is my first sectional title," Thornton said. "I'm so excited. It was one of my goals."

Thornton said she wanted to place in the top six in the 100 hurdles and the 4x4 on Saturday so she and her teammates could advance to the state group meet the following weekend.
