Bill Iezzi: CH East Wins Track Dispute and Title

After the Cherry Hill East boys 4x400-meter team won the South Jersey Large Schools race for the second time in two years Saturday at the Penn Relays, it was disqualified.

Officials said that lead runner Mike Oliver had strayed from his lane illegally and gone back. However, East assistant Mike Surrency had the evidence in a video camera.

After paying $25 to contest the DQ, Surrency showed a video of the race in which Oliver had been bumped from his lane before going back. Officials ruled in East's favor, the $25 was returned and the Cougars' time of 3 minutes, 23.36 seconds stood for the victory.
