The Audubon softball team showed that it is for real Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Colonial Conference rival Sterling.

Ranked No. 6 by The Inquirer, the Green Wave rolled No. 3 Sterling with a defense that was better than the opposition and that's the name of the game as teams go deeper into the season. Meanwhile, Audubon's offense capitalized on Sterling's miscues to score three runs.

"As long as you play good defense you're always in the game and that's what we've been doing," Audubon coach Erin Small said.

Sterling coach Kelly Tallant was at a loss to explain the three errors her team committed, leading to two unearned runs in the fifth inning, when Audubon took a 3-0 lead.

Sterling usually plays sterling defense.

"They played defense," Tallant said. "We had one bad inning."
