Bill Iezzi: Haddonfield's Soccer Lament

Haddonfield coach Glenn Gess and his players stayed with a good game plan Nov. 12 in the South Jersey Group 2 girls' soccer final with Middle Township.

As a result, the Bulldogs had plenty of chances to score in regulation and in two overtimes. However, Township beat them in penalty kicks, 3-1.

"We got everything we wanted," Gess said. "We probably had about 20 long throws and eight or so corner kicks and that's what our game plan was. We just didn't attack the pipes as well as we usually do."

"You keep a team in the game that long and ...give them credit, they put a lot of kids behind the ball, they played tough defense."

The loss prevented Haddonfield from winning its sixth-straight sectional crown. The win gave Township it's first title in the history of the program.
