Bill Iezzi: Camden Catholic's Super Field Hockey Freshman

Sometimes when I watch a field hockey game, one particular player will stand out.

Usually, it's not a freshman. However, on Tuesday afternoon at Camden Catholic, the home team's Tara Vittese stood out like a spot light.

At forward she was able to dribble around and occasionally through would-be Haddonfield defenders on her way to the net. On defense she stripped attackers of the ball.

Camden Catholic won, 2-1, on a pair of Vittese goals.

"She should be recognized as the rookie player of the year in South Jersey," Camden Catholic coach Maureen Casserly said about Vittese, the team's top ballhandler and scorer with 17 goals.

I've never written about a rookie of the year at the end of the season in the past. But that could change this year.
