S.J. Football: Sterling goes for the win

Sterling has lost 17 games in a row.

The Silver Knights are 0-5 this season. They were 0-10 last season. They haven't won since Nov. 8, 2008.

Sterling plays 0-5 Gateway on Friday night. The Gators have lost 16 in a row.

"We've got to get that taste of victory," Sterling coach Jarod Claybourn said.

There are some positives for Sterling: 48 players are on the roster, including freshmen, and the youth program is starting to get going again.

When Claybourn took over in 2007, the youth program has been dormant for four years. He helped revised the program -- the Knights' organization, based in Magnolia -- and it's starting to make a difference in the younger classes at Sterling.

But the Silver Knights need a win.

Of course, so do the Gators.
