Friday morning

"The first event on the track today: the 400meter hurdles college championship for men." We're underway here on a cloudless morning at Franklin Field. It's still a little cool, but not nearly as windy as yesterday was. You can find all of the Penn Relays stories from this morning's Inquirer... Read more

Video feature: Sarah Bowman

Friday, April 24, 2009, 12:10 AM
I didn't see the end of the college women's distance medley relay, but I certainly heard it. It was one of those classic Penn Relays roars, a "Woooooooooooooo" that rose up as Georgetown anchor Maggie Infield tried desperately to chase down Tennessee's Sarah Bowman. Stuck outside Franklin... Laurence Kesterson's photo gallery

Friday, April 24, 2009, 12:07 AM
I have a pretty good camera, but it's nothing compared to what people like staff photographer Laurence Kesterson carry around. He gets paid the big bucks (okay, that was sarcasm) to shoot really nice photos through really nice lenses, and he was trackside this afternoon. If there's a school you root... Read more

Marion Jones speaks at Penn

Thursday, April 23, 2009, 11:36 PM
Can it really have been that long ago since Marion Jones received one of the loudest roars I've ever heard at Franklin Field? Jones won't be seen on 33rd Street this year, but she was a few blocks up Walnut Street on the Penn campus today, giving a speech on race and gender in sports. Staff photographer... Read more

Part of that involved running within about two inches of me as I was flat on my stomach by the boundary... Read more

The view from the infield

Thursday, April 23, 2009, 7:27 PM
Now that the bugs are out of the system and the day's big races are done, I can finally focus on blogging. These photos are from the time I spent on the infield this afternoon. I'm especially fascinated by the pole vault because I have no idea how people actually do it. Granted, I'm not much of an... Read more
