Villanova-Siena postgame wrap

Sunday, March 23, 2008, 3:16 PM
Well, that was surprising. It's been a while since we've seen Villanova control a game from start to finish like that. Siena certainly had lost the mojo it had in the win over Vanderbilt, but the Wildcats made baskets early and kept making them late. The final score was 84-72, and the margin was right... Read more

Live from my desk: Villanova-Siena

Sunday, March 23, 2008, 12:06 PM
FINAL: 84-72, Villanova: In the end, there really wasn't any drama about this one. The Wildcats head to the Sweet 16, where they'll face top-seed Kansas at Ford Field in Detroit. How about that. PREAMBLE: WASHINGTON -- It is, in its own kind of way, an all-Philadelphia showdown in Tampa. Yes,... Read more

Saturday's top players

Sunday, March 23, 2008, 12:02 AM
WASHINGTON -- Well, that was quite a day, wasn't it? I was riding the Metro this morning, heading down to the new Washington Nationals baseball stadium to see St. Joseph's play George Washington in the first event ever held at the venue. The game wasn't much (the Hawks lost, 9-4), but the chance to... Read more

The Saturday schedule

I haven't been able to find coverage maps yet, but here's what we do know about today's games. I'll try to update this post if I find out more. Again, games on KYW are in italics, and you know the regional abbreviations by now. First Window: Full national telecast 2:10 p.m.: W2. Duke vs. W7. West... Read more

For some reason, KYW's listing on its website for today's games and the Inquirer's listing on page 2 of the Sports section are not the same. Both have Siena-Villanova, obviously. But after that, KYW lists Miami-Texas followed by Mississippi State-Memphis, while the Inquirer lists Davidson-Georgetown... Read more

Villanova does it again

Saturday, March 22, 2008, 12:34 AM
It makes complete sense, doesn't it? So many people picked Temple and St. Joe's to win and Villanova to lose in the first round, but the opposite happened. It was the veteran-laden Hawks who played like NCAA Tournament newcomers in a loss to Oklahoma, and the young Wildcats who rallied for a stunning... Read more

Friday open thread

Friday, March 21, 2008, 12:50 PM
WASHINGTON -- I'm spending the day doing the same thing as you: sitting in front of a TV watching as many games as I can. But since I won't be near a computer most of the time, I'm giving the soapbox to you all for the day. Post your comments on St. Joe's-Oklahoma, Villanova-Clemson or whatever other... Read more
