Villanova wins the men's DMR

Maybe I should blame Villanova coach Marcus O'Sullivan for my belief that I didn't have to watch the college men's Distance Medley relay.

Maybe I should blame Villanova coach Marcus O'Sullivan for my belief that I didn't have to watch the college men's Distance Medley relay.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't be surprised that O'Sullivan waited until after his team won the Championship of America to admit that he underplayed the Wildcats' chances of winning at Monday's luncheon.

I hereby plead guilty to taking the bait and missing what was apparently a thrilling contest that concluded right after I interviewed Michael Ray Garvin.

The Penn Relays' website has the details, especially of how Wildcats anchor Matthew Gibney overtook Texas' Jake Morse and Arkansas' Dorian Ulrey in the last lap. Full results are here.

The splits were as follows: 2:56.7 for Sean Tully's 1200m leg, 46.3 seconds for Elvis Lewis' 400m leg, 1:49.4 for Jason Apwah's 800m leg and 3:58.4 for Matthew Gibney's 1600m anchor leg.

I recorded Villanova's post-race press conference, and you can listen to it in the audio player below.

If there's a school you root for, a race result you want to know about or a Penn Relays memory you want to share, leave a comment in The Paddock on the right side of the blog.
