Temple to play in EagleBank Bowl

Temple will play either Army or UCLA in the EagleBank Bowl at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on December 29 at 4:30 p.m.

If Army beats Navy, the Owls will play the Black Knights. If the Midshipmen win that game, the Bruins will make the cross-country trip from Westwood to Washington.

Temple made this bowl instead of one of the bowls to which the MAC is tied in because the ACC did not have enough teams with six wins. The EagleBank Bowl's tie-ins are to a service academy and the ninth-place ACC team.

Navy played in the bowl last year, so this year is Army's turn. The ACC only had seven teams reach the six-win mark this season.

Penn State will play LSU in the Capital One Bowl on January 1 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. That game will kick off at 1 p.m. and air on ABC.

Rutgers will play Central Florida in the St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field on December 19 at 8 p.m. That game will air on ESPN.

Villanova has announced that its football playoff game against William & Mary will take place Friday night at 8 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The game will air on ESPN2.

Here are the BCS bowl pairings:

Rose: Oregon vs. Ohio State, January 1 (4:30 p.m., ABC)
Sugar: Florida vs. Cincinnati, January 1 (8:30 p.m., Fox)
Fiesta: TCU vs. Boise State, January 4 (8 p.m., Fox)
Orange: Georgia Tech vs. Iowa, January 5 (7:30 p.m., Fox)
National Championship: Texas vs. Alabama, January 7 (8:00 p.m., ABC)

The Rose Bowl pairing we already knew. But we didn't kow the rest until tonight, and the Fiesta Bowl matchup is discouraging. It might not be surprising - certainly everyone expected Texas and Alabama to play in the national championship game. But wouldn't it be better to see TCU and Boise State play BCS-conference teams?
