Which team would you rather see Temple play in the EagleBank Bowl?
Army
UCLA

Temple will play either Army or UCLA in the EagleBank Bowl at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on December 29 at 4:30 p.m.

If Army beats Navy, the Owls will play the Black Knights. If the Midshipmen win that game, the Bruins will make the cross-country trip from Westwood to Washington.

Temple made this bowl instead of one of the bowls to which the MAC is tied in because the ACC did not have enough teams with six wins. The EagleBank Bowl's tie-ins are to a service academy and the ninth-place ACC team.

Navy played in the bowl last year, so this year is Army's turn. The ACC only had seven teams reach the six-win mark this season.

Penn State will play LSU in the Capital One Bowl on January 1 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. That game will kick off at 1 p.m. and air on ABC.

Rutgers will play Central Florida in the St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field on December 19 at 8 p.m. That game will air on ESPN.

Villanova has announced that its football playoff game against William & Mary will take place Friday night at 8 p.m. at Villanova Stadium. The game will air on ESPN2.

Here are the BCS bowl pairings:

Rose: Oregon vs. Ohio State, January 1 (4:30 p.m., ABC)
Sugar: Florida vs. Cincinnati, January 1 (8:30 p.m., Fox)
Fiesta: TCU vs. Boise State, January 4 (8 p.m., Fox)
Orange: Georgia Tech vs. Iowa, January 5 (7:30 p.m., Fox)
National Championship: Texas vs. Alabama, January 7 (8:00 p.m., ABC)

The Rose Bowl pairing we already knew. But we didn't kow the rest until tonight, and the Fiesta Bowl matchup is discouraging. It might not be surprising - certainly everyone expected Texas and Alabama to play in the national championship game. But wouldn't it be better to see TCU and Boise State play BCS-conference teams?

Wow what a turnaround. You have to give this organization credit. They turned a program that was probably the worse in Division 1 into a legitimate program. Hopefully they can build on this and next year compete for a more lucrative bowl game. Much respect to you Temple

Damn a Tuesday night. I didn't even know this bowl existed. I thought 3 MAC teams were slotted to play in the international, GMAC, or Little Ceasars pizza bowl

Talk about taking any interest out of the Boise State / TCU quest. Took the chicken way out. Egg on their faces. Sounds like how a governmental body would handle things. Another committee fiasco.

Congrats to Al Golden and the Temple Owls--come a long way. Though I am a Nittany Lion at heart, great to a city team do well in football.

Congrats to Temple football. That being said, not only have I never heard of the "Eagle Bank Bowl," I've never even heard of "Eagle Bank."

Congrats to Temple from a hard-core Navy fan. Now I have another reason to cheer on the Mids to victory this Saturday. There are so many @#$%^&* bowl games that last year Navy played Wake Forest in the Eagle Bank Bowl, a team they had already played earlier in the year. If donkeys fly and Army wins, then Temple will face the same scenario - playing a team they've already beaten....nothing to gain and everything to lose. Temple - UCLA will be fun to watch - I hope the Owls nation will turn out in droves.

I am so disappointed. Sure, my Owls are in a bowl game for the first time in 30 years, but I had my heart set on taking a trip somewhere spending a weekend somewhere to go to the game, now all I am doing is taking a half day off work and driving to D.C. I got my passport, I was all set for Toronto. Go OWLS! I just hope we get UCLA and not Army.

I played for Temple in the mid 60's. Temple Stadium was the best with Dave Zinkoff on P.A. "The Blick kick rolls dead at the thirty-five Yaaaardline." Bednarik doing color on channel 6 with Les Keiter play by play. Dave Defilippo line coach. "No prejudice on this team. Any one who scores a touchdown is automatically an Italian."

Let's go Navy beat Army! Would like to see Temple play UCLA in a nice, cold, nor-easter with Bernard Pierce at 100%.

The Time is Now, be happy that Temple isn't in the bowl in Toronto. It's the same day that the Owls' basketball team hosts Kansas at the Liacouras Center.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
