USA wins both 4x400s

USA Blue rolled to a commanding victory in the women's 4x400-meter relay, its 3:22.16 beating Jamaica by a whopping 5.80 seconds.

USA Blue rolled to a commanding victory in the women's 4x400-meter relay, its 3:22.16 beating Jamaica by a whopping 5.80 seconds.

Allyson Felix ran the decisive second leg in 50.0 seconds, with Sanya Richards anchoring in 50.3 seconds.

Jamaica was in third most of the time, but Kaliese Spencer ran a great anchor leg to overtake USA Red's LaShinda Demus in the home stretch.

In the men's race, it was an American sweep. USA Blue came in first in 2:59.71, with Jeremy Wariner anchoring and getting a big ovation from the crowd.

These were USA Blue's splits: LaShawn Merritt, 44.5 seconds; Wallace Spearmon, 45.6 seconds; Darold Williamson: 5.5 seconds; Jeremy Wariner, 44.0 seconds.

USA Red came in second in 3:01.12, and it was a strong team too: Xavier Carter, Bershawn Jackson, Kerron Clement and Angelo Taylor.

Carter, Jackson and Clement are all very familiar names to Penn Relays fans.

Also, they just announced the attendance: 49,831, the second-largest Saturday crowd ever.

That makes for a three-day total of 113,302 fans, the second-largest total ever.
