This season’s Big 5 TV schedule and unofficial doubleheaders

I always intend to do this every year, and more often than not I forget. I remembered this time, even if it was just a few hours before the start of the season.

Here's the schedule of all of this season's Big 5 City Series games and how you can (or can't, in a few cases) watch them on TV.

Saturday, November 9: Temple at Penn (5:00 p.m., no TV)
Wednesday, December 4: Penn at Villanova (8:00 p.m., Fox Sports 1)
Wednesday, December 4: Saint Joseph's at Temple (8:00 p.m., ESPNews)
Saturday, December 7: Villanova at Saint Joseph's (6:00 p.m., CBS Sports Network)
Sunday, December 15: La Salle at Villanova (2:30 p.m., Fox Sports 1)
Saturday, January 11: La Salle at Penn (no TV)
Saturday, January 18: Temple vs. La Salle at the Palestra (12:00 p.m., ESPN or ESPN2)
Saturday, January 18: Saint Joseph's at Penn (7:00 p.m., no TV)
Saturday, February 1: Villanova at Temple (4:00 p.m., CBS Sports Network)
Sunday, March 9: La Salle at Saint Joseph's (4:00 p.m., CBS Sports Network)

It is not coincidental that the only games not televised are Penn's home games. Ivy League TV rights are held overall by NBC Sports Network. But schools have a lot of freedom to set - or not set - their own deals for games that don't end up on NBCSN.

Outside of the official City Series, there are two other intra-city games of note:

Saturday, February 15: Saint Joseph's at La Salle (11:00 a.m., ESPNU)
Wednesday, December 18: Drexel at Saint Joseph's (7:00 p.m., The Comcast Network).

As you might have guessed, the St. Joe's-La Salle game at Hagan Arena is the one that counts in the Big 5 standings. Drexel-St. Joe's is the Dragons' only game against a city team this season.

Here's a schedule of those great days throughout the season when you can watch more than one game in the city (plus the Pavilion) on the same day:

Saturday, September 9

2:00 p.m.: Manhattan at La Salle
5:00 p.m.: Temple at Penn

Saturday, November 16

Saturday, February 1

4:00 p.m.: Villanova at Temple
4:00 p.m.: Duquesne at La Salle

That one, admittedly, is a little tight. But you could at least catch parts of two games.

7:00 p.m.: Columbia at Penn

Sunday, February 16

Time that one right with transferring to the Broad Street Line at City Hall and you might not miss too much.
