In addition to my post, be sure to read Dick Jerardi's column in this morning's Daily News breaking down Ken Pomeroy's season projections for each of the City Six teams.

For the second week in a row, Temple is the top team in the Schuylkill 16. I haven't got much to add beyond that, but perhaps you do.

1. Temple, 23 points (9 first-place votes)
- "Temple beat Seton Hall and shockingly, that's a good win this year." (Brian Ewart)
- "Bring on Kansas." (Mario Machi)

Bring on Bowling Green, you mean?

2. Villanova, 25 first-place votes (7 first-place votes)
- "I'm ranking them at the top for no other reason than that the hoops squad has to be building on the momentum that Andy Talley's football Wildcats started with their run to the national title." (Mario Machi)

3. La Salle, 53 points
- "I have to give LaSalle a pass, they're 7-4 and they get to have a bad day." (Brian Ewart)

Not only that, the Explorers' original flight to Oklahoma City was snowed out. So they had to fly to Dallas and bus it the rest of the way.

4. Penn State, 65 points

5. Rutgers, 89 points
- "Please let the rumors be true about Rutgers moving to the Big 10.  I want them out of the Big East." (Nick Catrambone)
- "Should wins over NJIT really count for Rutgers (or Lafayette for that matter)?" (Brian O'Neill)

6. Rider, 103 points
- "They were shut out in OT against Rutgers.  Let me repeat that, my gentle snowflakes. They were shut out in OT against Rutgers." (Nick Catrambone)

There's a joke about melting in there somewhere.

7. Saint Joseph's, 116 points
- "How did Todd O'Brien get the starting nod at center and foul out with 7 minutes of burn? They played Lehigh, not the Lakers." (Nick Catrambone)

8. Drexel, 119 points
- "Drexel's "win" over St. Francis two weeks ago was the single-worst college basketball game I've ever witnessed. And I still ranked the Dragons ninth." (Mario Machi)
- "ESPN showing his name as "James Flint" cracked me up." (Nick Catrambone)
- "If history is any indication, sometime in the not-too-distant future the record books might just show that as a win." (Jeff Shafer)

9. Princeton, 149 points
- "Scoring 46 against Monmouth may seem low, but it is still 25 points higher than their 2006 game."

Is that still the lowest-scoring game in Division I history?

10. Lehigh, 169 points

11. Lafayette, 175 points

12. Bucknell, 180 points

13. Monmouth, 208 points
- "The Monmouth-Princeton game last week set basketball back about 10 years. Fans should have been paid as they left Jadwin Gym for having to watch that game." (Steve Rudenstein)

14. Delaware, 220 points

15. Delaware State, 226 points
- "Nice little December road trip they planned. At Arkansas, Arizona State, Ohio State and UCLA. They won't win any games, but they'll collect some nice paychecks and come back with a tan." (Nick Catrambone)

Bruiser Flint and Hornets coach Greg Jackson could go out for a real nice dinner with all this guarantee money they're racking up.

16. Penn, 256 points (all 16 last-place votes)
- "If they have a single win before playing Yale to open the Ivy schedule, I think the entire city of Philadelphia will be shocked." (Brian Ewart)

The conventional wisdom has pointed to the game at UMBC on January 3, but it's not a given by any means.

Write-ins

14. Kutztown State
"I may even make a road trip out for the game against No. 5 Lincoln (PA). I'm determined to get Kutztown some more votes. I need to sway the polls. I'll get Blagojevich and Daley involved if I have to." (Nick Catrambone)

You shouldn't have to go that far afield in Philadelphia... and that seems like a pretty good place to wrap things up.

After some off years, things are back to where they should be ... with Temple looking down at the rest of the Big 5 ... the Hawk is dead.

Why is phillydotcom asking daily if the Owls are worthy of an NCAA at large bid? Even if they don't with the automatic bid, we are now a top 25 team. With a RPI of 2!! Should the season end now, we are a 5 seed, let alone an at-large team. What is it they're missing?

Sports Illustrated has the Owls as a #3 Seed in their latest Bracket, and Philly.com has them as a border line at large bid. Unbelievable.

The hawk is dead just like Jameer and Delonte's careers. Go Owls!

Good to see Temple fans hating on St. Joe's (PA). It wasn't fair for Nova fans to get the "Hater" tag put on them just because they were the only team winning.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
