Thabeaten

I have to admit that I've thought for much of the season that Connecticut is overrated. I'm certainly not sure the Huskies are the third-best team in the entire country.

But my goodness, were those some spectacular blocks by Hasheem Thabeet in the final minute of Villanova's 89-83 loss in Hartford tonight.

Having said that, Villanova certainly could have won the game, both early and late. And if you're a Wildcats fan, you certainly aren't happy that A.J. Price (29 points) scored as many as 'Nova's top two scorers - Dwayne Anderson (15) and Scottie Reynolds (14) combined.

Next up: Saturday at South Florida. As tough as the Big East is this year, I think we can pretty well call that game a must-win at this point.

Elsewhere, St. Joe's astonishingly blew a 53-37 halftime lead against Duquesne at the Palestra, then gave up the first basket of overtime before squeaking out a 99-98 win.

And in the night's Big 5 game, La Salle beat Penn, 79-70, after leading 31-17 at halftime.

Finally, congratulations are due to NJIT for at long last snapping its 50-game Division I losing streak. The Highlanders beat Bryant, 61-51.

Some lines worth highlighting: Price, Ahmad Nivins for St. Joe's and Rodney Green for La Salle.
