Temple hoops in Top 25 for first time since 2001

Which is the best team in the Big Five?
La Salle
Temple
Villanova

Boosted by wins over Villanova and Seton Hall, Temple is ranked No. 21 in this week's Associated Press college basketball poll. It's the first time the Owls have been ranked by the AP since November 20, 2001. They were ranked No. 25 that week.

Temple is also ranked in this week's coaches poll, at No. 25.

(Thanks to the commenters who pointed out I was linking to the wrong week's poll.)

Congrats to the Owls, it's great to have as many city teams succeeding as possible. But if Nova and Temple played 10 times, Nova would win 8 of them, especially now that Reggie Redding is back.

And if you posted the same thing 3 times, it wouldn't make any sense all 3 times.

I posted it once. If that doesn't make sense to you, maybe you just don't have any sense. Can you read?

Why is LaSalle in the options? Nova fooled around for 40 minutes and still beat them by 20. It looks like there are 37 LaSalle fans who read this article though.

It's good to see the Big 5 with a couple competitive teams this year. And to wiseone, it wasn't Temple's fault that Reggie Redding got himself suspended. They took advantage of their one opportunity so I had to vote for the Owls. I'm hoping to see both advance far come March!

Hey, I'm a Nova guy and my props to Temple, who without a superhuman effort from Pepe II, they would have never beaten the Cats. Most importantly, though, is my ability to relish in the fact that the Hawk is Dead, for another long season. While the rest of the Big 5 farts around with the A-10 and other imposters, Nova will be battling in the Big East for the next three months! Merry Wildcat Christmas!!!

"I'll be back later tonight with a look at which voters put the Owls on their ballots." What's with the need to analyze who put Temple on their ballots? The Owls are 9-2 with a top 5 RPI and wins over two undefeated Big East teams, plus a 9-1 ACC team. Temple's two losses came against Big East teams with a combined two losses. How about analyzing who DIDN'T include Temple on their polls and why. Why don't you examine how a fraud Washington team is ranked when their best victory is a home win over Portland? What's Ohio St done to merit a #17 ranking? Do you not think this Temple has done enough to be ranked? I guess it was cute when you were doing it for football (looking at which pollsters ranked the Owls), but there's really zero reason for you to examine who voted for this Temple basketball team. They've done more than enough to warrant their ranking.

RJM, it's because of people like you that no one, other than nova grads, like that team. It is because of that superhuman effort by JUAN that Temple beat nova. They couldn't stop him so Temple won. It's easy to understand when you look at the final score. SJU will be back in 2 years. Mark my words...

I like how La Salle is even an option for the vote. Best laugh I've had all day.

I'd say that Temple is the best team in the Big 5 currently. 75-65 over Villanova. Let's see how the Owls will do against Penn, LaSalle (toughest Big 5 game remaining for Temple) and St Joes.

Well deserved. Their numbers say they should be top 15, but, that will come soon enough. Let's kick some Kansas A55 !
