Steve Bilsky named Big 5 executive director

Even though Penn athletic director Steve Bilsky is retiring at the end of June, he isn't going far. In fact, he isn't even leaving his alma mater's campus.

Even though Penn athletic director Steve Bilsky is retiring at the end of June, he isn't going far. In fact, he isn't even leaving his alma mater's campus.

Bilsky will become the executive director of the Philadelphia Big 5 this summer. According to a release from the organization, his role "will be to consult with the schools and facilitate related activity, including Big 5 competition, community partnerships, corporate sponsorships and special event."

The Big 5 has not had an official executive director since Paul Rubincam stepped down from the post in September of 2006. Since then, oversight of the City Series has rotated between the five participating schools' athletic directors.

"While collegiate athletics has certainly changed over time, I can say proudly that the commitment to this Institution called the Big 5 remains as strong as ever," Bilsky said in that release.

La Salle athletic director Tom Brennan, current chair of the Big 5's council of athletic directors, said that Bilsky "understands its importance, the landscape of Philadelphia sports, and the challenges and opportunities facing all of the Big 5 schools."
