Spectacle of the Week and Top 10 Chart

Tennessee at Florida and Penn at Villanova headline this weekend's college football schedule.

Spectacle of the Week and Top 10 Chart

Arguably the two best games this Saturday will take place at the same time: USC at Washington and Florida at Tennesse. Both games will kick off at 3:30 p.m., the former on ABC and the latter on CBS.

USC-Washington is one of three ABC regional telecasts in that timeslot, and according to the coverage map that's what we'll get in Philadelphia. The other two games are Nebraska at Virginia Tech, which could be decent, and Arizona at Iowa. Nebraska-Virginia Tech will air on ESPN2 here.

It says something, though, that the games atop the marquee also have perhaps the biggest potential to be blowouts. That is especially true of Tennessee-Florida, because of the talent gap and Gator fans' desire to give Lane Kiffin's squad a beatdown.

You might recall that Kiffin accused Urban Meyer of committing NCAA recruiting violations over the winter for actions that were not against the rules. As you can imagine, that did not go over terribly well in Gainesville.

What's the Spectacle of the Week?
Temple at Penn State (12:00 p.m., Big Ten Network)
California at Minnesota (12:00 p.m., ESPN)
Tennessee at Florida (3:30 p.m., CBS)
USC at Washington (3:30 p.m., ABC)
Penn at Villanova (7:00 p.m., Comcast Network)
Texas Tech at Texas (8:00 p.m., ABC)

I don't bet on sports, and I generally don't like the idea of betting on college sports unless I know where the money's going (i.e. a NCAA Tournament pool among friends). But it's worth noting that Florida is favored in this game by 29 1/2 points.

I leave it to you to take the over or the under.

Speaking of the Gators, below you'll find our weekly comparison of the football poll Top 10's. I find it very interesting that Ohio State is not in either human-based Top 10, but is No. 4 in Sagarin.

Finally, a word about this weekend. As Saturday is Rosh Hashanah, I will not be at the Penn-Villanova game. But I will have a very big post tomorrrow morning that I think you will enjoy reading over the weekend.

Happy new year to those of you who are also celebrating.
