Although the Division I football season doesn't start until tomorrow, the region's Division II and Division III schools have already kicked off.

Since we'll be hearing from their coaches throughout the fall at the weekly football luncheons, I figure we should get a head start on things by looking at the early results.

West Chester
Last week: Road win vs. Lock Haven, 43-0 (9/27)
This week: 9/4 at Delaware, 7:00 p.m.

Delaware Valley

While we're at it, let's start our weekly comparison of the Division I polls with a look at the preseason rankings. It's worth noting that there is no Philadelphia representation in the AP poll. The only Pennsylvania voter is Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The full list of AP voters is here; that page also includes links to each writer's latest ballot.

Note that there is no Harris poll yet, and of course there is no BCS poll yet either.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
