Penn State football to host Navy in 2012

I know I don't normally write about Penn State football, but this is pretty interesting...

The Nittany Lions will host Navy on September 15, 2012, the two schools announced today. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 1974, when the Midshipmen upset then-No. 8 ranked Penn State at Beaver Stadium.

Penn State and Navy met 12 times between 1961 and 1974, and the Nittany Lions hold an 18-17-2 advantage in the all-time series. They are 7-3 against the Midshipmen in State College, while Navy has a 13-9-2 edge in games played in Annapolis. Penn State has won two of the three games played at neutral sites.

Penn State also announced that the Temple game in 2012 will move to September 22.

Navy, by the way, will open the 2012 season against Notre Dame in Dublin, Ireland. That should make for an interesting atmosphere.
