We all know how history informs our experiences with sports in Philadelphia. This afternoon, a big piece of that history came to life.

If you were brave enough to endure the monsoons at Franklin Field, you might have seen former Penn and Eagles legend Chuck Bednarik on the concourse. He was signing copies of his new biography, Concrete Charlie.

I was able to get a bit of Bednarik's time for an interview. You can watch it below.

I know I say this often, but even as I'm supposed to be objective, it is pretty neat to be able to say I've interviewed Chuck Bednarik. I hope you like the piece.

There are great players, legends, and then there is,standing virtually alone at the summit of sports, local and national, Chuck Bednarik. You really did not have to see him play to understand his greatness, but I'm honored that I did have that opportunity (as an Iggle, not as a Quaker). # 60....simply the best.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
