Local coaches' luncheon highlights

Hear from the region's college football coaches and vote in the Spectacle of the Week poll.

This afternoon marked the first local college football coaches' luncheon of the season. It's a small and upbeat gathering of the region's Division I-AA, Division II and Division III programs, and it's an easy way for reporters to learn about what's going on at all those programs in the region that don't get the big headlines.

That's a polite way of saying that Temple and Penn State aren't represented. But a lot of other schools are, headlined by Penn and Villanova. The lunch alternates between those two schools' campuses, with this week's gathering taking place on the Main Line.

You can listen to all the coaches who participated in the audio playlist below. Penn's Al Bagnoli wasn't there, but Villanova's Andy Talley was, along with coaches from the following programs:

Olabaniji "O.J." Abanishe

Bill Zwaan (caution to those particularly sensitive to profanity)

Jim Clements

Pete Gallagher

Jay Accorsi

Sports Information Director Derek Crudele filled in for coach David Wood.

Be sure to check out the last track as well, in which Penn's Dan 'Coach Lake' Staffieri tries to get the audience fired up for the new season. He definitely got the emcee, KYW's Matt Leon, into the spirit.

And don't forget to vote in the Spectacle of the Week poll in the right rail. Apologies to Temple fans, but I have to go with Miami at Florida. Few atmospheres in college football can match the Swamp at its finest.
