On the strength of 32 sensational points from center Omhar Samhan and a combined 29 points from sharpshooting guards Mickey McConnell (15) and Matthew Dellavedova (14), Saint Mary's threw Villanova out of the NCAA Tournament by a 75-68 margin at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.

The Gaels shot exactly 50 percent from the field, 24-for-28. The Wildcats shot only 25-69, 36 percent. Just as importantly, Saint Mary's attempted 26 free throws to Villanova's 11.

Corey Stokes was Villanova's leading scorer with 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Scottie Reynolds scored only eight points on 2-for-11 shooting in the last game of his college career.

Feel free to share your comments below. I'm pretty sure a lot of you will have things to say, especially those of you whose teams also made the second round.

(Yeah, I said it, but I know that won't stop you. Have at it.)

But time is short
And the road is long
In the blinking of an eye
That moment's gone

The first two days of live blogging were a lot of fun, but they were also exhausting.

So today, I'm just going to do the Villanova game. I would like to get outside at some point... maybe...

If you didn't see it last night, I wrote a post offering my thoughts on Temple's loss to Cornell. Click here to read it.

Your posts about writing a sports blog always indicate how busy/exhausted you are. You write a blog and get paid for it and for a guy whose writing contains little real insight or demonstrated expertise, you should just be grateful. You're a joke.

Villanova really needs Cliff Lee if they want to advance.

He's a Penn grad, give him a break. It is not like he is suppose to know what he is talking about. Probably played soccer at a prep school.

Nova forgot how to play "every possession" . Need to follow there shots. Play straight man to man.

Actually, I am pretty sure he does not get paid for writing the blog but instead does it in addition to his work on the website because he is so passionate about college basketball in Philadelphia. Hunsecker, the joke's on you.

Let'a face it gang: St. Mary's knows how to play the game the right way; Nova doesn't. Outhustled, outsmarted, outshot, out-everythinged. And for those of you old enough to remember: how did you like Scottie Reynolds' George McGinnis impression this weeekend?

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
