Looks like the real Temple Owls finally showed up in the 2nd half. The should be embarassed and ashamed for the way they are playing in the 2nd half. They dont deserve to be in the bowl game with such a performance.

All of those who are down on Temple, suggesting that they'll never contend while in the MAC, need to get some perspective. If you would have told me that after 3 years, Golden would have put together a talented young core and a Bowl appearance, I would have called you a liar. Temple was AWFUL for YEARS and is taking its first step toward national contention, and you can't take anything away from them for coming back from the depths like they have the past few years. If you're down on Temple at all after this game, you haven't been paying attention to their program the past 20 years. Besides, if Pierce hadn't reinjured his shoulder and if the refs had gotten the proper call on that 3rd down at the start of the 3rd quarter, this game might have ended very, very differently.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
