Ramone Moore scored a career-high 24 points and nine rebounds, and Lavoy Allen added 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Owls edged past the Hawks in a thrilling Big 5 game at the Palestra.

Darrin Govens scored 21 points and Garrett Williamson scored 20 for St. Joe's, which fought ferociously throughout the second half to force overtime.

A big key for the Hawks was their 16-for-23 performance from the free throw line. The refereeing was at least questionable on multiple occasions during the game, but it seemed to even out over the full 45 minutes.

Moore was by far the star of the game, making 11 of 18 field goal attempts including a really big layup off the glass in overtime.

The preamble is below, as is audio of the postgame press conferences. Also be sure to check out the video my colleague Litty Samuel put together in the player at right. It includes game and press conference highlights and an exclusive postgame interview with Temple coach Fran Dunphy.

There's plenty to be said about this game and the others that are going on today. The first thing that comes to my mind, though, is how nice it is to have the simple pleasure of a day game at the Palestra.

Phil Martelli always raves about how special it is to play games here on Saturday nights, but I really like being here during the afternoon. Especially on a day like this, where the sunshine is streaming in and the house is packed.

This game is one of three at the Palestra today. Penn's annual alumni basketball game is at 4, and the current Quakers' varsity hosts Yale at 7. I'll be covering that game for the Inquirer, so be sure to check out my story in tomororw's paper.

As for today, be sure to listen to the interview I did with Joe Lunardi before the Temple-St. Joe's game in the audio player below.

Now let's get going.
