Crunchy Numbers

Villanova's defensive efficiency is strong, but the Wildcats aren't forcing many turnovers.

Time for our weekly look at statistical highs and lows across the City Six.

Drexel

- The Dragons' defense allows the sixth-lowest effective field goal percentage in the country, but their offense's effective field goal percentage produced is ranked No. 312.
- Daryl McCoy is ranked No. 18 nationally in individual defensive rebounding percentage and No. 52 in individual offensive rebounding percentage.

La Salle

- The Explorers are ranked 27th in offensive rebounding percentage gained, but 268th in offensive rebounding percentage given up.
- Jerrell Williams is ranked No. 61 nationally in fouls drawn per 40 minutes.

Penn

- The Quakers' offense ranks 56th in the nation in two-point field goal percentage, but the defense ranks 300th in two-point field goal percentage given up.
- Jack Eggleston is ranked No. 44 nationaly in least fouls committed per 40 minutes. Interestingly, Conor Turley averages 5.2 fouls committed per 40 minutes. That shouldn't be possible, but I guess it's a function of all the overtime games Penn has played.

Saint Joseph's

- The Hawks' offense has the 29th-lowest turnover percentage in the nation, but only the 294th-best effective field goal percentage.
- Carl Jones is ranked No. 79 nationally in individual percentage of possessions used, i.e. possessions where an action by that player ends the play (with a shot, a turnover, a foul, et cetera).

Temple

- The Owls' defense allows the 21st-lowest effective field goal percentage in the country, but for some reason it also gives up the 301st-worst free throw shooting percentage. Maybe the Owls should play basketball at the Linc so they can have a more difficult shooting background.
- Among the many reasons why Scootie Randall will be sorely missed at Duke tomorrow: he has the 46th-best individual offensive rating in the nation.

Villanova

- The Wildcats have a lot of defensive strengths, as borne out by their 29th-ranked defensive efficiency. But they still struggle to create turnovers, as evidenced by their 267th-ranked turnover percentage forced.
- Corey Fisher is ranked No. 87 nationally in True Shooting Percentage, which adds a factor for free throw percentage into effective field goal percentage.
