So the big news of the day is that Casiem Drummond is transferring out of Villanova. I was asked about this during Saturday night's liveblog and I didn't know anything about it, and I'm still a bit surprised.

Granted, I know absolutely nothing about why it's happening. I've said it before on here but it's been a while, so I might as well say it again: writing this blog isn't my real job. I get paid to help run Philly.com and display content on it in various ways, and that's how I spend most of my workweek.

As such, I'm not out at all the practices and I don't hear all the rumors that the beat writers and other insiders do. I hear some of them, but I usually prefer to focus on covering games and the culture and atmosphere of the Big 5.

That brings me to the day's other event, Big 5 Media Day this morning at the Palestra. Dick Jerardi has a nice writeup of how it went on Philly Hoops Insider.

After the formal speeches took place, I got one-on-one interviews with John Giannini, Glen Miller, Fran Dunphy and Jay Wright. I also talked to new Atlantic 10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade about the new conference tournament TV deal with CBS.

I don't have time to transcribe everything, but you can listen to it all below, including the speeches. I don't know if you usually listen to the audio when I post it but I would really encourage you to do so this time because there's a lot of very good stuff in there.

Having said that, an apology in advance for the quality of the audio on the track with the speeches. The microphone was too close to the papers that emcees Bill Bradshaw and Brian Seltzer were shuffling while talking.

Nice get on the McGlade interview. She gave you two nuggets: the fact that the semi finals will be on CBS-C and there are 4 cities bidding for the confernce tournament. Those previously hadn't been reported.

About Jonathan Tannenwald
I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

I write primarily about the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League, but I also cover the other basketball and football teams across the city from time to time. In the spring, you'll find coverage of the Penn Relays here.

In addition to all of that, I write Philly.com's soccer blog, The Goalkeeper.
