I must admit I didn't.
Not just because of the Sagarin difference, in which Army was ranked 23 spots above Temple coming into the night. It was on the road, and it was the Black Knights' season opener, and the Owls hadn't won by more than two touchdowns in four years.

- Temple at Army (7:00 p.m. Friday, ESPN Classic)
- Coastal Carolina at Penn State (12:00 p.m. Saturday, Big Ten Network)
- USC at Virginia (3:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC)
- Villanova at West Virginia (3:30 p.m. Saturday, ESPN)
- Appalachian State at LSU (5:00 p.m. Saturday, ESPN)
- Michigan State at California (8:00 p.m. Saturday, ABC)
- Alabama vs. Clemson in Atlanta (8:00 p.m. Saturday, ABC)
- Tennessee at UCLA (8:00 p.m. Monday, ESPN)
Of note, that Villanova-West Virginia game is airing on WPVI (Channel 6)'s second digital channel. So if you have a digital TV, you can find it on 6.2 over the air or 216 on Comcast. I don't know about satellite platforms, however - and I don't have the right set to watch it.

First of all, be sure to read the season preview stories in today's Inquirer and Daily News; you can get to them via the headlines list a bit down the page from here.Second, I'm taking nominations for this week's Spectacle of the Week poll. My contributions are Michigan State-Cal, Alabama-Clemson (which will probably get my vote) and Tenneseee-UCLA.
If there's another game you think has a lot of buzz surrounding it, let me know by posting a comment. I'll post the poll tomorrow.

I guess it is. Though I find it really hard to believe that the first games of the season kick off in only 72 hours. After two exhilarating weeks spent watching the Olympics, we dive headfirst right into that most American of all sports. That means it's time to change the blog banner to reflect the new season, as well as to consider what's to come on the blog this fall.
It's also time for college football previews in the Inquirer and Daily News. Jeff McLane profiles Penn State's Anthony Scirotto and looks ahead to the coming season for the Nittany Lions. Ted Silary tells us about Syracuse running back and former West Catholic star Curtis Brinkley, and takes a look at 15 more Philadelphia natives making an impact across the country.

We've now seen Usain Bolt's gold-medal winning 200-meter sprint with our own eyes, and it was truly spectacular. This time, there was no early celebration. Instead, Bolt lowered his head - and the proverbial hammer - in the final meters, storming across the line and into history in 19.30 seconds.
The margin of victory was almost as stunning, with Bolt crossing the line more than half a second ahead of the Netherlands Antilles' Churandy Martina.
