The Schuylkill 16 2010-11: Week 4

Wednesday, December 8, 2010, 3:17 PM
Here's how our reader panel ranks the region's teams heading into tonight's big games, Minnesota at St. Joe's and Penn at Villanova. 1. Villanova, 17 points (14 first-place votes) - "This is almost too easy. The Cats get top billing just for the sheer enjoyment of toying with the Hawklets at... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 2010-11: Week 3

Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 3:48 PM
With St. Joe's at Drexel tonight and the Holy War coming up Friday, there is plenty of smack talk to go around in this week's poll. So let's get right to it. 1. Villanova, 25 points (18 first-place votes) - "Villanova is still waiting to run their first half-court set of the season." (Andrew... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 2010-11: Week 2

Wednesday, November 24, 2010, 9:05 PM
I was in soccer mode for most of the day, so I wasn't able to get to this until early in the evening. Wednesday's games were not a factor in the voting, but all of Tuesday's games were. 1. Villanova, 26 points (12 first-place votes) - "I am dropping Villanova because of where they placed Tannenwald... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 2010-11: Week 1

Wednesday, November 17, 2010, 9:00 AM
It did not take long for the voting to become a head-to-head contest for the top spot between Villanova and Temple. All of the No. 1 votes cast this week went to the Wildcats or the Owls, and they were spread out pretty evenly. One quick note before we get to the rankings: I'll be at the Pavilion... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 2010-11: Preseason Rankings

Friday, November 12, 2010, 10:22 AM
Although the college basketball season officially started on Tuesday, tonight is the unofficial opening night for the game in the region. Five of the City Six teams are in action, and of the Schuylkill 16: City Six Games Seton Hall at Temple, 7:00 p.m. (no TV or radio) Columbia at La Salle, 7:00... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 Week 18: Complex inferiority

Tuesday, March 9, 2010, 12:50 AM
Over the last few days, there's been a rather amusing spat going on between Temple and Villanova fans in the comments here and on Philly Hoops Insider. The question, of course, is which team is better; the answers have been just as predictable. From what I can tell, the Villanova fans' argument generally... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 Week 17: Is Penn State actually good?

Thursday, March 4, 2010, 2:15 AM
A disclaimer, first of all. The deadline for voting was before last night's games. So what you see below doesn't reflect the wins that Temple, La Salle and St. Joe's picked up, nor does it include Bucknell's loss at home to Holy Cross in the Patriot League Tournament. I've been keeping an eye on Penn... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 Week 16: Democracy in action

Thursday, February 25, 2010, 11:00 PM
Lurking in the background of any ranking-based poll is one fluky possibility: that the team with the most votes at a certain rank won't in fact be ranked there. That's what happened this week. The last-place votes were so spread out that Delaware got more of them than any other team, but was ranked... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 Week 15: A dent in Villanova's armor?

Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 10:09 PM
Boy, this week's rankings are all over the place. Villanova and Temple are still 1-2, but the Owls snatched a first-place vote on the basis of the Wildcats' loss. Princeton is up to fifth, St. Joe's is ninth and Penn State just barely edged out Bucknell for 11th. All the way at the bottom, Penn's... Read more

The Schuylkill 16 Week 14: 'Nova unanimous

Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 8:37 PM
For the first time since December 9, Villanova is the unanimous No. 1 team in the Schuylkill 16 rankings. Temple is the unanimous No. 2, and Drexel is up to No. 3. I wonder what would have happened had Temple not lost at Richmond, but even if they had, Villanova's win at West Virginia was really impressive... Read more
