2009 Big 5 Hall of Fame class announced

Penn's Jerome Allen, La Salle's Curt Fromal and Susan Moran of St. Joe's are in this year's class.

I'd been wondering for a while when this year's Big 5 Hall of Fame class would be announced, and now we have the answer.

This year's inductees are former Penn star Jerome Allen, Curt Fromal of La Salle and Susan Moran of St. Joe's.

Most of you have probably heard of Allen, who is widely regarded to have been the best player Fran Dunphy had in his 17 years at Penn. Fromal played on the 1964-65 Explorers team that made the NIT (which mattered a lot more back then than it does now) and was drafted by the 76ers. Moran the only player in Hawks history to have led the women's team in both scoring and rebounding in four consecutive seasons.

The induction ceremony will take place on Feb. 14 before the St. Joe's-La Salle game at the Palestra, and as happens every year the inductees will also be honored at halftime of the game.

(credit to them for getting the news up before I could) has more biographical and statistical information about the players.

Question for the Penn fans out there: your team plays at Yale that evening, which from my experience covering the team is a popular road trip for Quakers loyalists. Does this news change your plans?

I'll be back later tonight with some postgame observations on Pitt-Villanova.
