Voter Registration -- The Final Days

Larry Eichel reports...

If you want to participate in the Pennsylvania primary, you have to be registered in the party of your choice by Monday. With that in mind, the campaigns of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama have big plans for between now and then.

Acknowledging what so many people are following today, the Clinton campaign announced its version of March Madness, the Final Four Days of voter registration. (It doesn't count Sunday, which is Easter.) Pennsylvanians for Hillary plans canvassing, phone banks and rallies. Promised for Saturday are events featuring America Ferrara, star of TV's "Ugly Betty," and Jehmu Greene, president of the "Rock the Vote" effort.

The Obama camp also is planning a final weekend push and is urging supporters to check the campaign website, pa.barackobama.com/PAdeadline, for information about activities around the state.

Since November, statewide Democratic enrollment has grown by more than 111,000, an increase of about three percent. State Elections Commissioner Harry VanSickle told the Associated Press that such growth appears to be unprecedented. Democratic registration is approaching 4 million, which would be a record. Some of the biggest increase has come in Chester County, where the Democratic numbers are up nearly 7 percent. Statewide, the numbers of Republicans and independents have declined slightly.

I was out today signing up voters on the El and Subway. Obama's magnanimous leadership makes me want to magnify my vote.

I saw where Obama is trying to get Republicans and Independents to register at http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/pavoterreg because he can get the hard core Dems who actually run things. He runs quite a shady business.

Tammie, he's running for President of the United States meaning ALL her people regardless of party, race, gender or age. It's new to politics, to be sure, but I like he's reaching out to all of us.

Tammie, Your shady is Barack's resourcefulness. But, why is it shady to get folks to "join" the Democratic Party?
