New Pennsylvania Polls; Clinton edges up
His remarks about "bitter" small-town voters haven't helped him. Here's some new evidence about how much he's been hurt.
New Pennsylvania Polls; Clinton edges up
Larry Eichel reports...
We've all been wondering how Barack Obama's comments about small-town Pennsylvania would affect the horse race heading inton the primary next Tuesday.
The first polls are in, and the results are mixed -- although certainly not favorable for Obama.
Rasmussen has Clinton up 50-41 in a poll taken Monday. She had been up 48-43 last Monday. So a slight shift to Clinton there.
Quinnipiac has Clinton up 50-44 in a poll taken April 9 through April 13. Those numbers are identical to what Quinnipiac found a week earlier. Part of the new poll was taken before the controversy started and part after. But the pollsters say there was no indication of any shift in the later part of the polling.
American Research Group, which put out its poll Monday, showed the most dramatic change. That poll had the race even, 45-45, a week ago. But the new results had Clinton up 57-37. That would be a huge shift, one that strains credulity.
- I'm so glad this is the last day to read these polls ! I have not seen organization or truthfulness from the Hillary campaign. George Bush lied to us and look at the mess we're in. People like him who feel entitled to the Presidency are more likely to abuse the office and do harmful things - they take the American people for granted. That Bosnia sniper story freaked me out. I like the candidate who builds his name from scratch, with no entitlement or family help. Haven't we learned our lesson with Bush? EmanuelP
Gideon and janett::: another deception or lie or misspoken from Hillary?????? You are kidding me---- simple as ABC Anybody But Clinton anytown usa

Whats desperate is finding someone in her latest ad thats not even a PA voter. He voted in NJ primary and volunteers for the Clinton campaign. Now, thats an insult to the PA voters. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/16/man-in-clintons-bitter-ad_n_96939.html gideon
maxwellinformed I'm glad to see someone who is well informed! I'm all for a woman President some day, but she's not the one. As I said in another post on here, this woman has more baggage than the cargo hold of a USAirways plane. She is not going to beat John McCain in a general election. JanetT
Gideon I just saw that on another site and spit Diet Coke all over my keyboard. Can you say "desperate"??! JanetT
Yea Janet, nice to see a woman not part of the "I want a woman no matter what" crowd. maxwellinformed
Thanks Jane and it has just come to light that one man in her latest ad in PA is not even a registered voter in PA. In fact, he already voted for Clinton in New Jersey and is one of her volunteers. She cant even get people from PA to support her views. Wow!! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/16/man-in-clintons-bitter-ad_n_96939.html gideon

eclectic I couldn't agree with you more! People will look at a 30 second clip of something taken out of context (and I'm not talking about anything specific here) and base their entire opinion on that. Instead of finding out what was said, where it was said, and why it was said is just too much work. The internet is a wonderful thing, books are a wonderful thing, read, read, read! For you Hillary supporters, READ her First Lady journals that she was forced to make public. She dragged her feet and didn't want to because she knew she'd be caught in a host of lies. And she was! Bosnia was lie. Bringing peace to Northern Ireland was a lie, helping refugees in Kosovo was a lie. Well there went all her foreign diplomacy right out the window. It also mentions all the meetings she headed garnering support for NAFTA which she claims she was against all along. Right now she is speaking out about China and the treatment of the people of Tibet. Yet she and Bill both knew about the genocide going on in Rawanda and did absolutely nothing. She is the LAST person who deserves to be our POTUS. JanetT- Think. Research. Vote. Let's hand Hillary a big fat loss right here next week, and put her pathetic charade of a campaign to rest, once and for all. PA Voter

I think a lot of people on this post have been fed a lot of lies about Obama and wont do any research or try to find out the truth. Here is one truth about Clinton for you. Vote for her after this if you will see how that works out for you.. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/13/tim-russert-nails-hillary_n_96419.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/13/bill-clinton-flashback-al_n_96433.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G8dRMofHNs&eurl=http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/11/clinton-mccain-respond-to_n_96318.html You are wrong (justme) everyone knows she pushed NAFTA while in the white house and is lying about CAFTA as well. eclectic
these polls are all over the place...some from day to day...last i saw, some polls had Hillary up by 3.5 pts. or so in IND., narrowing the gap to 10 pts. in NC...widening the gap in WV, PR, etc...one in Penns. had her up by 9 pts...another even had her up by 20...the most accurate with the largest sample, afaik, had her up by 6...so the effects of Bitter-Gate still aren`t entirely clear...some wil flock away from BO the more they realize he mostly killed his chances to win the GE with his elitist remarks...in SF no less...and undecideds aren`t siding with Obama...they`re flocking away from him...admittedly, more to McCain than Clinton...but the true effect of Bitter-Gate, if not realized now, will be in the summer with PUBS attacking BO on it far, far worse than Clinton has...just like Kerry, just like Gore, just like Dukakis, etc...in the latest nat. poll of both dems and pubs, 56% disagreed with BO`s remarks...can you say bu-bye, BO from the Presidential race?...and now, something which looked soooo easy a few months ago gone...: http://www.newsmax.com/ruddy/Why_the_GOP_Loves_Obama/2008/02/20/74275.html Thanks a lot BO!...for running too soon, making a rookie, inexperienced mistake...which has probably cost the dems the White House...even more evidence of your handi-work...: links to even more govt. officials speaking out/offended by BO`s remarks...Mont, Ind, and WV are weighing in...: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=7101 ... http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=7114 ... http://www.register-herald.com/local/local_story_105221505.html ... they join numerous govt. officials in several other states who`ve spoken out against Obama`s comments! justme819

Some of you think Obama is arrogant? And when our favorite poor millionaire tells people "I feel your pain" when her butt is sitting on 109 million dollars you believe her? Now THAT'S arrogance! Especialliy since her and her husband's trade agreements have netted them money by costing us jobs. Yeah, let's vote her in! JanetT
with a race this close, polls change from day to day and the only "poll" that counts is the one that takes place in the voting booth. It is not surprising at all though that this latest "boneheaded" remark has costs him some points. Americans are trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but it seems whenever his teleprompter is turned off, his true feelings about working class rural folk come out and it ain't pretty. I guess the "typical white person" is a "bitter" slack-jawed yolkal that "talks like John Edwards" (anyone remember B.O. making fun of Edwards accent?) that "clings" to their faith not out of a desire to know God, but out of frustration...??? Obama and his wife seem like a pair of Grade A CYNICS when it comes to "people who aren't like them". NativeFlower
these polls are behind. The latest - Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll released at 5pm ET - now shows Clinton "LOSING traction" down to 5 points - 46% to 41% - in PA. Meanwhile, Obama has 5pt lead in Indiana(!) and 17pt lead in NC. Looks like the "bitter-gate" only mattered to those who had already made up their minds to begin with and then filter everything accordingly. Meanwhile, the undecideds seem to be siding with Obama on this one. thinkresults

Not the first, second, third or LAST time that OBAMA HAS insulted. His intolerance is seaping through. THE BIGGEST scam of the century... stev
As a Pennsylvania native who misses her life in a small Allegheny Mountain village, I pray that voters throughout the Commonwealth who are decent, honest and real will repudiate Obama's arrogance in attempting to characterize us as unthinking church-going gun-lovers. patri
Looks like a job for Obama girl! By the way why were my other comments refused, where did I cross the line? birdflewover
Tammie, mighty nice of you to speak on behalf of all of Obama's supporters, but I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. That dog don't hunt. expat4barack
the Rev. Wright, Lewis Ayers, Larry Sinclair, Louis Farahkan, the Black Panthers, Rezko, Sen. Meeks, Robert Malley, Auchi, Rashshid Khalidi, McPeaks, Michelle Obama...to the crux...i`d much rather have the Clintons there with maybe - and that`s a HUGE maybe - involved in a scandal which doesn`t affect the American people in any way...this is why the media ignores this garbage for what it is and will continue to ignore it as old news...without the media, the Pubs can`t use it effectively enough to beat her...which makes her far more electable...meamwhile, Hillary`s policies could very well have us in prosperous times after cleaning up the mess left by another Bush...the Clintons are getting quite good at that...compare that to BO and Friends...who, quite frankly, may be extremely dangerous to the American people...i know most Pubs feel this way...and half the Dem party...which =`s most of America...face it...McCain`s going to wipe the floor with Obama!...they`ll rip him apart with EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THe PEOPLE AND GROUPS LISTED ABOVE!!! justme819
Hillary is completely against NAFTA and was even while Bill was Pres...: http://www.hillaryclinton.com/news/release/view/?id=6892 and of course Hillary`s ALL for keeping jobs right here in the US...Penn and the campaign have gone separate ways...and BILL IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRES!...Hillary`s made it CLEAR that he will have absolutely no say in issues involving NAFTA...they couldn`t disagree more...and those boos were from BO followers...for a real lyer, check this out...: http://www.audacityofHypocrisy.com it`s too soon to know if she got a big boost in the polls...certainly, she`s gotten a small jump...the polls are going the same way they went in OH. and other large swing states...he closes possibly due to his new voters...but then her new voters propel her to a win...in Oh., it was 10 pts and would`ve been more if strong Clinton areas hadn`t been flooded out of the vote! justme819
These numbers don't mean a thing either way. As another poster said, it doesn't reflect newly registered voters or voters who have switched parties. Obama was up over 10% in NH and still lost. And for this to mean anything to Hillary she has to win BIG. If she doesn't, any ground she may have made up in PA will be completely lost in NC. If the numbers are true, Obama is up over 20%. JanetT
OBama has had misspeaks that have been blown out of context, however, he has faced these head on and not hidden behind lies and distractions. Clinton didn't get the big jump in polls that she was expecting, instead she got booed by PA manufactor workers that are tired and want to concentrate on the ISSUES that affect americans. She should be more worried about her LIES, TIES TO NAFTA, COLOMBIA, AND the BOSNIA tape that will be ran loop by loop by the Republicans, and they will attack her also about the money former Prez Clinton has received from China, and we will never know about her 2007 tax returns, what a political move. It would probably be as revealing as her white house papers that revealed that she WAS INDEED INVOLVE WITH PUSHING NAFTA, contrary to her public statements that she opposed it from the beginning. My point TAMMIE is that she won't be able to hold water in Denver. The only way she will make it to Denver, is to STEAL the election from Obama, who leads in delegates, and has the popular vote. I think the voters accross the nation are speaking loud and clear, or are You and the Clintons listening. I respect her staying in the race, just be fair and stop the lying and mudslinging. She can claim she "misspoke" but not Obama. Kitchen sink politics as usual. smcclair
Rarely do the polls reflect NEW registered voters or voters that have switched their party, so polls can give you a snap shot, however, what matter is the BALLOTS casted, so this could give Clinton a false sense of security because many of the new voters are young people that have never voted before and a good number them are Obama supporters, because I worked with many during the voter registration drive in PA and it was AMAZING the number that volunteered, and are enthusiatic to participate, because they finally relate to someone who represents "hope" and the ability to unite to change our counntry. smcclair
How nice it is. She's sure to win comfortably now - though one vote is enough. PA has the honor among all other states in our nation of getting Hillary on to the convention in Denver. Don't worry, the Obama people will fall into line. Tammie
these polls are all over the place. I wonder if new voters or converts are included in these polls sweetmama- Oh ok, I get it. I'm sort of following the numbers loosely because I don't believe anything until the day of... but these things can be farely accurate I guess. MVKrum
