Eyes of the nation turn to Flyers and Palin

The fascination with all things Palin means that Philly Flyers fans (say that fast three times) will get closely scrutinized Saturday night, when the GOP VP candidate is scheduled to drop the ceremonial puck at mid-rink.

Remember throwing snow balls at Santa? The rest of the nation does. Here's the latest from Politico:

"In addition to rough welcomes for Santa Claus and pop star Beyonce, Philadelphia fans, arguably the most unforgiving in American professional sports, cheered as an opposing team’s star player lay motionless on the turf after sustaining what turned out to be a career-ending neck injury, threw batteries at a player who refused to sign with the Phillies baseball team and last month jeered their own mascot for dropping a foul ball.

An independent pro-Palin blog worried “Uh-oh, did anyone warn Sarah about Philadelphia fans?”

Bet the Flyers get the best ratings of the season Saturday.

The season's jinxed.

O.K. So here it is...A Hockey team from Philadelphia that is owned by a very rich republican, and an another opportunity to drop a puck for the first game of a promising season. And Pennsylvania being a swing state has the republican party camping out in Philly and Pittsburgh to preach their party's slogan. Which is fine. Until you bring a contest to Flyers fans by using a quote, 'I'm a hockey mom", that was used on a stage in a republican governmental rally to gain the Presidency of this country. This contest is fine too, until you bring IN the woman who said she claims, "I'm STILL a hockey mom", I'd like to know which child is still playing hockey, and have her drop the first puck of the season. Are we as a team and as fans trying to win a cup or are we in this business to expose someone running for office? We are here to cheer on the team, that we have invested thousands of dollars into and have already paid thousands of dollars, to a Stanley Cup win, not a Republican party win. Bring in some former players who have won a cup in the old Spectrum, which is being torn down, and give the 2008-09 team a moment to remember in the newer building from the old Broad Street Bullies. I find it very poor taste for Mr. Snider to do this. If I could be there, I would voice my opinion in a very loud,...BOOOO!

Sarah Palin dropping the puck affects your lives how? God you people are pathetic.

Palin abused her power in the firing of the state commissioner - violated ethics law! Yell cheater and liar!

In an article on the Obama Cheerleading Times, formerly known as the Philadelphia Inquirer it says, "The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor." So now a panel that was designed to embarrass the Governor cannot even say definitively that she abused power and they resort to divination or better yet clairvoyance. Meanwhile B Hussein is involved in massive voter fraud and campaign finance abuse and no one cares.

My first commentary to any blog. Not my creation but heed the following: There are only a couple of weeks before the election, an election that will decide the next President of the United States.... The person that is elected will be the President of all Americans, not just the Democrats or the Republicans. To show our Solidarity as Americans, let's all get together and show each other our support for the Candidate of our choice. If you support the politics and character of Barack Obama, please drive with your headlights on during the day.... If you support John McCain, please drive at night with your headlights off. A daytime driver

I just hope that it's real cold in there and she has a Flyers t-shirt on. And a shorter skirt wouldn't hurt.

I know if I was there she would get booed worse than a Flyers playoff loss.
Comment removed.

fgomarty you are a knucklehead. You need to stop listening to Sean Insanity on Faux News. No one cares what you have to say because it isn't TRUE. As the economy is tanking and the Bush administration bails out his free market economic buddies, McCain has nothing to offer the middle class. So he gives you lies. First off - ACORN is an organization that has been aroud for 30 years registering voters. Unfortunately, people out getting people to fill out voter registration cards are either homeless or unemployed. Yes, ACORN knows that these people falsely fill out cards to improve their numbers. Even though ACORN knows that they are fraudulent, FEDERAL LAW - let me repeat this for you - FEDERAL LAW says they have to be forwarded to their respective election office. ACORN even flags these as possibly fraudulent when sent. The Republican National Committee which knows this fact, decided to raise it as an issue because there are aways bad registration cards in the process of registering voters. This is all about caging voters - the UNAMERICAN tactic of trying to prevent American citizens from their civil rights to vote. Second. The massive campaign finance abuse that you are referring to amounts to $40,0000 out of $400 Million of donations sent over the internet because they did not have proper names or addresses. So, when you make your decision to vote this November, don't be distracted by non-issues that will not make your life better like gays, god and guns which Repulicans rely on. Go to a site like www.middleclass.org and see which candidate is going to improve you medical care, job security, retirement and education for your kids. We do not need another 4 years of George Bush in lipstick.

Don't worry gang, the Republicans are choking on their own tactics and rhetoric. The smear tactics and the fear tactics they used are not going to work this time. They are back firing on them. McCain is a decent man, mixed up with the wrong people. He's at odds with many of them now and those divisions will show up in the coming weeks. As for Sara Palin. She's a world class phony and as a life long Flyer fan I really don't want her involved with my team. Ofcourse, unfortunately I don't own the team and the guy who does shows bad judgment in his politics. Nothing I can do about that. But Ed, I was in the stands in 1967 for your first game in this town and you've never disappointed me until now. I hope you will reconsider.....

I'm sure once the McCain puppeteers realize that this isn't the usual crowd of Hannity/Beck/Limbaugh parrots that she's used to, they'll pull the plug.

You people are all crazy to think a socialist government is going to make it better for you. The financial meltdown wasn't caused by bush and his cronnies, it was caused by all the idiots that went out and levered irresponsibly and now those of us who haven't, the very small minority, are going to pay. But guess what, it's all ok because Obama is going to increase taxes only on those making more than 250k per year, right? I've got news for you, after this mess, there are going to be a lot more people NOT making 250k per year. Then what? Who's going to pay? Once the Dems win the White House, Senate, and House, we're all doomed. I wish people would embrace the fact that in America you can strive to make >250k per year and be glad you're not in France or Venezuela where only "government officials" can make that kind of money. I spent a few years living overseas and have paid those 65% tax rates so I can speak first hand that socialism sucks!!!!! McCain isn't the strongest candidate, but at least he isn't a socialist! And at the very least, we can always agree on one thing.....Let's Go Flyers!!!!!
