Larry Eichel reports from the road...

The Obama bus ride across Pennsylvania is finally under way. And it began with an appearance by -- I know none of you could have possibly guessed this -- The Bus.

Yes, sports fans, former Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis, whose nickname is the same as the vehicle on which we are riding, showed up to start the journey. He even gave Barack Obama a version of the Steelers' terrible towel. This one was blue with white lettering and said, "Here We Go, America, Here We Go."

The rumor was that Obama would toss a football with Bettis or stage a hand-off. But rather than risk a costly gaffe, Obama emerged from the Soldiers and Sailors Hall, where he'd been speaking, carrying a football. And he never gave it up.

Another former Steeler and current Obama supporter, Franco Harris, was also in the picture. He did not board the bus for the ride to the next stop. But Bettis did. So, the Bus is on the bus.

And now we'll stop.

Obama said he "never heard the diatribe by Wright". Well he sat in the audience, as Wright, on video, pointed to him and addressed him. Wright went on to claim that Bill Clinton done blacks wrong. "He was riding dirty." Obama, in all his presidentialness, did not stand up and object; instead he smiled as people cheered. He did not denounce Wright even after the service. Here is Bill Clinton riding dirty. http://www.clintonfoundation.org/cf-pgm-hs-ai-work.htm

Vote Obama in 2008! He's got a good backbone and decent ideas. I think he'll try hard for the right reasons, so I'm supporting him.

The simpletons are still trying to use the Rev. Wright controversy to cause division, is it fear that Clinton may lose? Americans are smarter than your antics. Besides, Obama had his red phone moment and stepped up to the plate, He didn't need "SNIPERS" to fight for him. Enough Hillary with the LIES, LIES, LIES.

Obama hates America, thats why he wants to run it into the ground, listen to reverend Wright, Obama refuses to condem him, what happens to the terrorists who attack us. Obama will forgive them, not attack them.

Jeff: I know right? What exactly is it that's so great that Obama is going to do for people when he becomes President. No changey hopey nonsense. Real substantive accomplishments. Do people really think if he gets in that everyone is going to have free health care and the war is going to end?

We need a president with good morals, not someone who likes to fling fling with interns, and a wife that allowed it! So, all you Billary fans, Obama will win, so you have until Jan/09 to move out of the country. bah bah byeee

The funniest thing is that people actually think it matters whether Hillary is elected, or Obama is elected, or McCain is elected.

I don't know how Hillary survived that brutal attack. She is liek a war hero. Like Rambo and McCain rolled into one, practically.

"Everything he talks about she is already doing." You mean things like lying about being under sniper attack in more than 3 speeches and calling it a "misspeaking"?

Can Casey explain why he endorsed a man who has a 100% favorable rating from the Ill. Planned dParenthood Council for his support of abortion and for voting against banning partial birth abortion? Too, I guess that Casey, like Obama, voted against a bill "that would have made it a federal crime for anyone other than a parent to accompany a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion." (from wikipedia)

Hillary Clinton is the real changemaker. Obama is a Karl Rove orchestrated, Republican-funded, media supported puppet. Everything he talks about she is already doing. Hillary 2008.

The Inauguration: Jan. 20 blog brings you coverage of President-elect Barack Obama's transition into office.

It's written by political journalists from the Philadelphia Inquirer. Send us your comments -- and news tips -- at this address.

Thomas FitzgeraldThomas Fitzgerald joined The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2000, and has covered Harrisburg as well as city, state and national politics for the newspaper. He was a “boy on the bus” in the 2004 presidential campaign and during primary contests in 2000 and 1996.

Nathan Gorenstein has covered politics and government in the city, state and nation for the Inquirer. He's worked in the city hall bureau, had a stint on the business desk, and once covered the suburbs. After serving as assistant regional editor, he was named editor of the "Politics" web site.
