Drug wholesaler AmerisourceBergen says revenue rose 5.7 percent

Valley Forged-based pharmaceutical wholesaler AmerisourceBergen said Thursday that its quarterly revenue rose 5.7 percent from the same period in 2011.

AmerisourceBergen's financial calendar does not mesh with typical post-on-the-wall calendars, meaning it closed its first quarter on Dec. 31, 2012.

The company is one of the three biggest drug wholesalers in the nation and the biggest Pennsylvania company as measured by revenue.

AmerisourceBergen reported that its revenue increased from $20.3 billion in the first quarter of 2011 to $21.5 billion in the same period of 2012.

The quarterly net income rose just a pinch, from $162.1 million in 2011 to $168.6 million in 2012.

AmerisourceBergen chief executive officer Steven Collis is scheduled to talk to stock market analysts later Thursday.

“We are off to a solid start in our fiscal year 2013, with December quarter results in line with our expectations,” Collis said in a statement. “During the quarter, we successfully implemented our previously announced new contract with our largest customer, and we continued to make progress on the integration of World Courier. As we look ahead, we are well positioned to meet our objectives for the year and to continue to have significant financial flexibility.”
